It took me far too long to decide to protest child safety online. I also couldn't decide if I should make the topic more specific and focus on loot boxes and gambling mechanics and how they're affecting children or leave it broad. I planned to make a few ads that could be posted on Instagram, as that's a good way to interact with the parents of the children being affected by this problem. Many current parents are used to using the internet and are aware of some of the stuff on it but didn't grow up with it so don't know how it could be affecting their kids. Most Instagram ads have quite a muted colour scheme so I wanted to use similar colours. I settled on blue and purple which wasn't what I was intending on using as most of the ads are warm beige or pink. I think it works as it still fits the Instagram ad aesthetic while also standing out. Blue is also a calm colour, which I used in the hope that it wouldn't scare the parents viewing the ad. My research showed that parents are more willing to listen when they aren't told they're doing something wrong so I wanted my work to give off that vibe.
