Clothing Analysis
The t-shirt is mostly grey with small touches of green. Grey is a neutral colour that isn’t really associated with any emotion; however, it could also be interpreted as timeless and practical. Green is a relaxing colour associated with nature and growth. Anyone who could judge me purely on these colours would get an accurate picture of me.
This t-shirt was made by a company called Oneita and manufactured in the USA. This company was opened in 1950 and closed in 2003. It also says Power-T on the label which was owned by Oneita until 1989. This means that the shirt is much older than I thought. I have also customised it by shortening and tying up the front. This is as form of my personal expression because I made the shirt more unique and suited to my own style. It also shows some of my viewpoints towards clothes as I prefer upcycling or making my own clothes rather than buying them new.
This t-shirt is definitely function over form as it is a men’s shirt. The cotton it’s made of is thick and the stitching is neat and sturdy, proven by how old the shirt probably is. As men’s shirts are stronger, not see through and baggier I prefer to buy them if I want something to customise. This shirt is quite baggy on me so it shows that I prefer comfort over impact as it doesn’t make me stand out.
Most fashion has a shelf life; however, t-shirts are plain enough to be paired with other items that are currently fashionable and still look good. Similarly to jeans, t-shirts are versatile and have been around long enough to always be in fashion. The logo on the front may have or had some cultural significance or it may just be a logo associated with Santa Cruz. Either way I bought it because of the mermaid.
